First Camp Out!

On Friday evening, we met up with some of my cousins and their kids at Payson Lakes campground.  I was a little nervous to go.  As I explained to my cousin (when she was trying to talk me into it), I didn't do a whole lot of camping growing up.  My mom's idea of camping was a hotel with no room service.  She hates camping.  And while I would like to think of myself as a sporty, outdoorsy kind of girl...I'm really not.  I'm usually much more comfortable being the "let's go see the symphony or a musical" kind of girl.  Also, Jeff and I tried to go camping once when we were first married.  During that trip, I discovered that I was claustrophobic, terrified of going to the bathroom in the dark, and that forgetting the rain tarp is a really bad idea.

So.  Was I crazy for trying it all again, this time with a 10-month-old? Probably.  But I believe in second chances, and more importantly, the gooey goodness of s'mores.  So we readied our tin foil dinners, packed up our things, and drove to the campground.  (Side note: when I tried to pack our toothbrushes and toothpaste, Jeff informed me that I was violating camping rules.  Is this true, or just a gross rule that boys follow when camping?)

I love this picture.

The drive up was absolutely gorgeous.  It really was a perfect weekend to go.  I wish that I had taken more pictures of the scenery.  Max was scared to even go inside the tent at first.  He is definitely quirky.  When it was time for bed, we put him down in the pack-n-play inside the tent, and he actually went to sleep fairly quickly.  Jeff and I should have been cast in "Mission Impossible" for the way we stealthily crept in later on.  Everything was fine until a few hours later when Max woke up crying.  He ended up in my sleeping bag with me for the rest of the night.  I was mostly off of the pad underneath my sleeping bag and my arm kept falling asleep, but it was a rare treat to snuggle next to my precious little boy and so I loved it.  Can't wait to go again!
