5 months old

Maxwell turned 5 months old on 12-11-11. At his doctor's appointment he weighed 17 lbs (75th percentile) and was 28 inches tall (97th percentile). Jeff says that he will make us rich when he is older since he's sure he will be an athlete. Ha!

The last month has been tough for my little Maxers. Physical therapy has become increasingly more frustrating because he has not made a lot of progress. He is very sensitive to anyone touching his head or neck because he has learned that it will most likely be painful for him. He's become very resistant to stretching exercises and it has just been difficult. Because his neck is so tight, and because we are unable to make progress, our therapist and doctors recommended that we take Max in for Botox injections for his neck. Botox temporarily weakens the muscles so that he is less resistant and we can then train and work with the muscles as they regain their strength. I feel badly that it has gotten to this point, but after doing some research, we feel it is the best course of action.

Other things about Max this month:

1. He is completely on formula (I couldn't keep up with the demands of physical therapy and pumping)
2. He gets scared every time Daddy clears his throat
3. He wants to help us hold his bottle or wants to grab our faces
4. He still loves having his hands in his mouth
5. Has a fun and quirky sense of humor
6. Loves to look around at everything and was in HEAVEN when we visited the Grand America in SLC
7. Continues to experiment with sounds (including squealing)

One quick note: His physical therapist asked me if he was "dramatic" and the massage therapist said he was "stubborn," but I adore his active, feisty personality. (Maybe because it reminds me of mine!!) I love his strong emotions and his opinions. So glad he's ours!

He is seriously the CUTEST! Love him.

I'm sorry physical therapy has been so frustrating. Poor Max (& you!). Here's to hoping the botox works wonders!

He's such a cute little guy! I love all the pictures...he's gotten so big! I'm sorry about all the physical therapy, but he's so lucky to have you as his Mom to help him get through it.
